The study was carried out from March, 1979 to April, 1980. The identification of the experimental and control faecal masses was carried out originally every 7 days and afterwards every 14 days, to a total of 30 pairs of masses. In the case of the experimental masses, samples were taken weekly to establish the number of eggs per gram of faeces (epg) and of infective larvae, as well as the number of larvae on the pasture around the faecal mass, in order to establish the degree of infectivity at different times of the year. The vegetation around the control mass was examined fortnightly, 44 after the experimental mass was found to be negative. The mean persistence of eggs in the faeces was two weeks; in the case of the infective larvae of Cooperia spp., Haemonchus spp., Trichostrongylus spp. and Oesophagostomum spp., the values observed were 8.3, 5.4, 5.2 and 5.3 weeks respectively. The mean survival of infective larvae on pasture, for the same genera, was 15.2, 9.8, 10.4 and 9.8 weeks respectively. In 48% of the control faecal masses, larvae were still found on the pasture. An analysis of the results shows that favourable conditions for the survival of infective larvae were observed in every month of the experiment.application/pdfporUniversidade Federal Rural do Rio de JaneiroPrograma de Pós-Graduação em Ciências VeterináriasUFRRJBrasilInstituto de Ciências Biológicas e da SaúdeMedicina VeterináriaMedicina VeterináriaDesenvolvimento e sobrevivência de ovos de larvas de nematódeos gastrintestinais de bovinos, sob condições naturaisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisALICATA, J.E., 1961. |
