The objective was to contribute to the Pathology and Clinical birds such as those used in this study, through the determination of reference parameters of hemogram, using the anticoagulant heparin. The motivation for this research was due to the fact that the cockatiel is exotic and the sparse information content, in literature, the hematological values of normal for healthy birds. The animals were divided into two groups: Group 1 (young - up to 12 months) and Group 2 (adults - more than 12 months), totaling 60 birds (30 in each group) . Through the results obtained in this experiment, it was concluded that the overall count technique at a ratio of 1:100 (blood-thinner), using the Natt-Herrick solution was satisfactory for the determination of reference parameters of hemogram in cockatiels. General comparisons, there were small differences influenced by age factor, taking into consideration young and adult animals, therefore there is the need for a standardization group for cockatiels, classifying them as young and adults. The results of this study serve as reference for cockatiels, in Rio de Janeiro.
