Resumo: | The present dissertation presents the results of a case study of the ethnographic type of a rural school, whose school management is a reference in the municipality where it is located, and which serves a community of one of the largest islands in the region. The school in question is known for its remarkable trajectory of organization and struggles for better teaching conditions for its population. The method used during field research included semi-structured interviews with the various segments of the school community, participant observation and documentary analysis of the Pedagogical Political Project of the school unit. The field research was a challenge to understand the school and society conception that the school management of a rural school, in this riverside case, has, and what form of organization and management it uses for the accomplishment and success of their educational process. It aimed to analyze how the school and its subjects organize themselves to the viability of their educational objectives, and also, if the school constitutes a strategic space for the social development of the community where it is inserted. In summary, the study showed how the practices of organization and management of the school unit lead the school process to the expectations of its community, from a perspective of democratic-participative school management, which emphasized the strategic role of school management for quality education, and for social change in the context of rural education. |

A escola em quest?o ? conhecida por sua trajet?ria marcante de organiza??o e lutas por melhores condi??es de ensino para sua popula??o. O m?todo utilizado durante a pesquisa de campo incluiu as entrevistas semiestruturadas com os diversos segmentos da comunidade escolar, a observa??o participante e a an?lise documental do Projeto Pol?tico Pedag?gico da unidade escolar. A pesquisa de campo constituiu-se um desafio para compreender qual a concep??o de escola e de sociedade que a gest?o escolar de uma escola do campo, neste caso ribeirinha, tem, e que forma de organiza??o e de gest?o esta utiliza para a efetiva??o e ?xito do seu processo educativo. Objetivou, assim, analisar como a escola e seus sujeitos se organizam para a viabiliza??o de seus objetivos educacionais, e, ainda, se a escola se constitui um espa?o estrat?gico para o desenvolvimento social da comunidade onde est? inserida.
