Resumo: This research was carried out in the Swine Laboratory of the Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ), Nilo Pe?anha Campus, in the Para?ba valley microregion, southern Fluminense mesoregion, for the monitoring of Parabasalids, parasites found in swine matrices responsible for dysentery and atrophic rhinitis, despite the emphasis on technology and sanitary management of the herd studied. The objective of this work was to determine and diagnose the presence of Parabasal?deos in swine feces with and without gastrointestinal and /or respiratory symptoms, whose main route of transmission would be oral fecal. The proposed methodology was to evaluate the presence of this etiological agent in the pigs of the pigs confined in the UFRJ. For this, feces were collected from the rectal ampulla of 70 females kept at room temperature (? 30oC), which were homogenized in buffered physiological solution (PBS) at the ratio (1:10) at the Laboratory of Reproductive Pathology of the UFRRJ, , from 5.0 grams of faeces to 50 ml of PBS, kept in a bacteriological oven at ? 37 ? C for 24 hours in order to identify the protozoan. The diagnosis based on the morphology was made based on the observation of fresh assembly or through swabs stained in Quick Panoptico with the aid of a binocular optical microscope and with 10 and 40X objective. Positive samples were maintained in culture for preservation of the protozoan. As far as the results of the fresh fecal examination were, 48/70 samples positive for Parabasalids, corresponding to 68.57% of the breeding females, the main clinical picture reported was dysentery in 31/48 (64.58%) in sows, p <0.05, and no cases of atrophic rhinitis were reported. Regarding the parasitological result, 72.7% of the matrices were positive for at least one parasite, and there was case of co-infection in 75% of the infected animals. In the matrices, coccidiosis was more frequent (60.87%), followed by Parabasalidea (52.17%), Strongyloidea (47.8%) and Balantidium (26.08%). It was concluded that Parabasal?deos are present in the herd and that they play a relevant role in the infection of animals in confinement with or without the diagnosis of dysentery.

It was concluded that Parabasal?deos are present in the herd and that they play a relevant role in the infection of animals in confinement with or without the diagnosis of dysentery. Submitted by Jorge Silva (jorgelmsilva@ufrrj.br) on 2022-05-03T17:36:01Z No. of bitstreams: 1 2019 - Nelson Oscaranha Gonsales da Costa.pdf: 697291 bytes, checksum: fd381fcf1ebb63534c424592bda15fc4 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2022-05-03T17:36:02Z (GMT). description This research was carried out in the Swine Laboratory of the Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ), Nilo Pe?anha Campus, in the Para?ba valley microregion, southern Fluminense mesoregion, for the monitoring of Parabasalids, parasites found in swine matrices responsible for dysentery and atrophic rhinitis, despite the emphasis on technology and sanitary management of the herd studied.
