Biologia populacional do ermit?o Pagurus crinicornis Dana, 1852 (Crustacea, Decapoda, Anomura) na Ba?a de Sepetiba, RJ

Resumo: The hermit crab Pagurus criniticornis has distribution restricted to the Western Atlantic. The present study was carried out at two sampling sites, with three subareas each other: the Itacuru?? mangrove and the Lopes slab, both in Sepetiba Bay, RJ, and aimed to get information about population biology of specie P. criniticornis. The samples were done monthly from octuber/09 to september/10 in each sampling site, recording local abiotic data and, subsequently, biometric measures of hermit and theirs shells. Were collected 710 specimens, witch 237 (158 males, 71 females and 8 immature) were in Itacuru?? mangrove and 473 (232 males, 219 females and 22 immature) were in Lopes slab. The sexual ratio obtained was 2,22 in Itacuru?? mangrove and 1,06 in Lopes slab, with males predominating in both sites, being significant only in the first locality (p < 0,01). The size class distribution of individuals showed bimodal for males and unimodal for females from Itacuru?? mangrove, and unimodal for both sexes from Lopes slab. The individuals of Itacuru?? mangrove were significantly larger than ones of Lopes slab (p < 0,01) and, in both localities, the males were larger than females (p = 0,03; p = 0,04, respectively). The monthly distribution of individuals presented correlation with salinity, in Itacuru?? mangrove, and air temperature, in Lopes slab. Ovigerous females were captured on all seasons of the year. The individual sexual maturity were 1,54 and 1,35 mm of shield length in Itacuru?? mangrove and Lopes slab, respectively. The mean fecundity was 2,66 ? 187,61 and 197,87 ? 125,86 eggs in Itacuru?? mangrove and Lopes slab, respectively. The correlation between weight of ovigerous females and fecundity was that better accounted the association among ovigerous females and fecundity. Cerithium atratum was the more abundant gastropod shell in the two sampling sites. The correlation between shield length and shell aperture length was the better one that explained the association among hermit and shell. The more abundant epibionts in Itacuru?? mangrove were barnacles, however in Lopes slab were bivalves. Were collected individuals parasitized by rhizocephalans in Itacuru?? mangrove and, in Lopes slab, by rhizocephalans and bopyrids. The physics differences between the two sampling sites are a likely account for the variations noted in the population biology of theirs individuals.

O presente estudo foi realizado em dois locais de coleta, com tr?s sub-?reas cada: o manguezal de Itacuru?? e a Laje do Lopes, ambos na Ba?a de Sepetiba, RJ, tendo como objetivo obter informa??es sobre a biologia populacional da esp?cie P. criniticornis. As coletas ocorreram mensalmente durante o per?odo de outubro/09 a setembro/10 em cada local de coleta, tomando-se os dados abi?ticos locais e, posteriormente, as medidas biom?tricas dos ermit?es e das conchas. Foram coletados 710 indiv?duos, sendo 237 (158 machos, 71 f?meas e 8 imaturos) no manguezal de Itacuru?? e 473 (232 machos, 219 f?meas e 22 imaturos) na Laje do Lopes. A raz?o sexual obtida foi de 2,22 no manguezal de Itacuru?? e 1,06 na Laje do Lopes, predominando os machos nos dois locais, sendo significativa somente no primeiro local (p < 0,01). A distribui??o dos indiv?duos por classes de tamanho apresentou-se bimodal para os machos e unimodal para as f?meas no manguezal de Itacuru??, e unimodal para ambos os sexos na Laje do Lopes. Os indiv?duos do manguezal de Itacuru?? foram maiores que os da Laje do Lopes (p < 0,01) e, para os dois locais, os machos foram maiores que as f?meas (p = 0,03; p = 0,04, respectivamente). A distribui??o mensal dos indiv?duos apresentou correla??o com a salinidade, no manguezal de Itacuru??, e a temperatura do ar, na Laje do Lopes. Em todas as esta??es do ano foram coletadas f?meas ov?geras. A maturidade sexual individual foi de 1,54 e 1,35 mm de comprimento do escudo cefalotor?cico no manguezal de Itacuru?? e na Laje do Lopes, respectivamente. A fecundidade m?dia foi de 2,66 ? 187,61 e 197,87 ? 125,86 ovos no manguezal de Itacuru?? e na Laje do Lopes, respectivamente. A correla??o entre peso das f?meas ov?geras e fecundidade foi a que melhor explicou a associa??o entre f?meas ov?geras e fecundidade. Cerithium atratum foi a concha mais abundante nos dois locais de coleta. A correla??o entre comprimento do escudo cefalotor?cico e comprimento da abertura da concha foi a que melhor explicou a associa??o entre ermit?o e concha. Os epibiontes mais abundantes no manguezal de Itacuru?? foram as cracas, mas na Laje do Lopes foram os bivalves. Foram coletados indiv?duos parasitados por rizoc?falos no manguezal de Itacuru?? e, na Laje do Lopes, por rizoc?falos e bopir?deos. description The hermit crab Pagurus criniticornis has distribution restricted to the Western Atlantic. The present study was carried out at two sampling sites, with three subareas each other: the Itacuru?? mangrove and the Lopes slab, both in Sepetiba Bay, RJ, and aimed to get information about population biology of specie P. criniticornis. The samples were done monthly from octuber/09 to september/10 in each sampling site, recording local abiotic data and, subsequently, biometric measures of hermit and theirs shells. Were collected 710 specimens, witch 237 (158 males, 71 females and 8 immature) were in Itacuru?? mangrove and 473 (232 males, 219 females and 22 immature) were in Lopes slab. The sexual ratio obtained was 2,22 in Itacuru?? mangrove and 1,06 in Lopes slab, with males predominating in both sites, being significant only in the first locality (p < 0,01). The size class distribution of individuals showed bimodal for males and unimodal for females from Itacuru?? mangrove, and unimodal for both sexes from Lopes slab. The individuals of Itacuru?? mangrove were significantly larger than ones of Lopes slab (p < 0,01) and, in both localities, the males were larger than females (p = 0,03; p = 0,04, respectively). The monthly distribution of individuals presented correlation with salinity, in Itacuru?? mangrove, and air temperature, in Lopes slab. Ovigerous females were captured on all seasons of the year. The individual sexual maturity were 1,54 and 1,35 mm of shield length in Itacuru?? mangrove and Lopes slab, respectively. The mean fecundity was 2,66 ? 187,61 and 197,87 ? 125,86 eggs in Itacuru?? mangrove and Lopes slab, respectively. The correlation between weight of ovigerous females and fecundity was that better accounted the association among ovigerous females and fecundity. Cerithium atratum was the more abundant gastropod shell in the two sampling sites. The correlation between shield length and shell aperture length was the better one that explained the association among hermit and shell. The more abundant epibionts in Itacuru?? mangrove were barnacles, however in Lopes slab were bivalves. Were collected individuals parasitized by rhizocephalans in Itacuru?? mangrove and, in Lopes slab, by rhizocephalans and bopyrids. The physics differences between the two sampling sites are a likely account for the variations noted in the population biology of theirs individuals.
