Estudo do Ciclo Biológico de Ornithodoros mimon (Acari: Argasidae) em condições de laboratório

Resumo: | Ornithodoros mimon Kohls, Clifford & Jones, 1969 é um carrapato argasídeo parasito de Chiroptera, originalmente descrito de larvas coletadas sobre morcegos da Bolívia e Uruguai. No Brasil a espécie é bastante agressiva aos humanos e aos animais. Ninfas e adultos de O. mimon foram coletados do teto de uma residência em Araraquara, São Paulo, Brasil, cujos moradores estavam sendo picados pelos carrapatos. Uma vez em laboratório, os exemplares foram alimentados em coelhos da raça Nova Zelândia e mantidos em estufas de B.O.D. à 27ºC ± 1ºC e 90% de umidade. As fêmeas, após o acasalamento, realizaram posturas que resultaram em larvas que foram identificadas através da descrição original (Kohls et al., 1969) e também pela comparação com os parátipos (RML 50271-50274) depositados na Universidade da Georgia, USA. O ciclo biológico desta espécie foi obtido através da aquisição de duas gerações de carrapatos (F1 e F2) em laboratório, utilizando roedores e coelhos como hospedeiro. Os parâmetros biológicos de larva, ninfa e adulto de ambas as gerações foram observados e registrados a partir de infestações nos hospedeiros de laboratório. As larvas apresentaram um perfil de alimentação por dias no hospedeiro, enquanto que as ninfas e adultos por cerca de minutos. Registrou-se mudança de ninfas de primeiro ínstar (N1) para ninfas de segundo ínstar (N2) sem repasto sanguíneo. A espécie foi colonizada com sucesso e o seu ciclo biológico foi elucidado pela primeira vez. Assim, os achados obtidos no presente estudo contribuíram com informações para um melhor conhecimento da espécie, além de fornecer subsídios para manutenção de colônia em laboratório. |

In Brazil the species is aggressive to humans and animals. Nymphs and adults of O. mimon were collected from the roof of a residence in Araraquara, São Paulo, Brazil, whose residents were bitten by ticks. Once in the laboratory, they were fed rabbits and maintained in biological oxygen demand incubator at 27 ºC ± 1 ºC and 90% ± 10% relative humidity. The females, after mating, laid eggs that resulted in larvae that were identified by the original description and also by the paratypes examination (RML 50271-50274) deposited at the United State National Tick Collection, Georgia, GA, USA. The life cycle of this species was obtained through the acquisition of two generations of ticks (F1 and F2) in the laboratory using rodents and rabbits as hosts. The biological parameters of larva, nymph and adult stages of both generations were observed and recorded from infestations in the laboratory hosts. Larvae showed a profile of feeding for days on the host, while the nymphs and adults for few minutes. It was observed molt from first nymphal instar (N1) to second nymphal instar (N2) without blood meal. The species was successfully colonized and its life cycle was elucidated for the first time. Ornithodoros mimon Kohls, Clifford & Jones, 1969 é um carrapato argasídeo parasito de Chiroptera, originalmente descrito de larvas coletadas sobre morcegos da Bolívia e Uruguai. No Brasil a espécie é bastante agressiva aos humanos e aos animais. Ninfas e adultos de O. mimon foram coletados do teto de uma residência em Araraquara, São Paulo, Brasil, cujos moradores estavam sendo picados pelos carrapatos. Uma vez em laboratório, os exemplares foram alimentados em coelhos da raça Nova Zelândia e mantidos em estufas de B.O.D. à 27ºC ± 1ºC e 90% de umidade. As fêmeas, após o acasalamento, realizaram posturas que resultaram em larvas que foram identificadas através da descrição original (Kohls et al., 1969) e também pela comparação com os parátipos (RML 50271-50274) depositados na Universidade da Georgia, USA. O ciclo biológico desta espécie foi obtido através da aquisição de duas gerações de carrapatos (F1 e F2) em laboratório, utilizando roedores e coelhos como hospedeiro. Os parâmetros biológicos de larva, ninfa e adulto de ambas as gerações foram observados e registrados a partir de infestações nos hospedeiros de laboratório. As larvas apresentaram um perfil de alimentação por dias no hospedeiro, enquanto que as ninfas e adultos por cerca de minutos. Registrou-se mudança de ninfas de primeiro ínstar (N1) para ninfas de segundo ínstar (N2) sem repasto sanguíneo. A espécie foi colonizada com sucesso e o seu ciclo biológico foi elucidado pela primeira vez. Assim, os achados obtidos no presente estudo contribuíram com informações para um melhor conhecimento da espécie, além de fornecer subsídios para manutenção de colônia em laboratório. |
