This study sought to establish the effects of papaya competition with two species of wild plants, Digitaria insularis and Bidens pilosa. The period of evaluation included the juvenile stage of papaya crop, considered one of establishment of the changes in the field (90 DAT) and the end of the growing season of weeds. The weeds can cause major damage and its control is important since the implementation of culture, among other reasons because of the small volume of soil explored by the roots of papaya seedlings providing low competitiveness. For the study was promoted analysis of papaya growth variables and the accumulation of macronutrients of papaya and wild species. It was observed that there was a negative effect on growth variables, height, diameter, number of leaves and Effective Leaf Area of papaya with increasing densities of weeds. The dry matter content of papaya was also reduced significantly with increasing density of weeds. Differences were noted in growth ranging from spontaneous species. The reduction was observed in macronutrients accumulation in papaya, depending on planting density of wild species, which is influenced by the reduction of the assessed papaya (root, stem and leaves).
