NOTAS SOBRE A FUNDAÇÃO LITERÁRIA ROMÂNTICA, MODERNISTA E CONTEMPORÂNEA NO BRASIL

In this article, we intend to investigate discourses about the foundation of three relevant moments in Brazilian literature: the period of romanticism in the 19th century, modernism (especially in the phase of the “heroic” generation of the 1920s) and contemporary literature (from the 1960s to the present day). Academics such as Evando Nascimento point out the different theoretical perspectives that attach two of these moments (romanticism and modernism) as founders of Brazilian literature as a whole. And through the discussions proposed by Tânia Pellegrini and José Miguel Wisnik, we can understand how these movements were historically updated in Brazil. More than marking out the pioneering works of each period, we want to discuss how intellectuals and critics assess the importance and role of each of these moments within the national tradition. Our brief overview also seeks to point out how the foundation of these trends responds to permanent aspects of the history of Brazilian literature that are renewed over time.
