Context and purpose: The risk for hearing loss in professional musicians can have an impact on the professional and social life of the musician. Thus, the objective of this study was to perform a qualitative systematic review in order to identify if there is a risk for musicians to develop hearing loss due to occupational exposure. Methods: A search was performed in four electronic databases (PubMed®, LILACS®, SciELO®, and Open Gray®), with no restriction in the Portuguese and English languages, and no temporal filtering. Epidemiological studies and professionals using music professionally were selected. After the selection, the studies were evaluated for their quality. Subsequently, a description of the selected articles was made. Results: Eight articles from 364 records were selected, the majority of authors being Brazilian. There is a prevalence of hearing loss, according to most of the studies that composed the sample. Interdisciplinary and controlled studies deserve more attention from researchers in the area, considering the need for research with greater methodological strength. Conclusion: Based on the results, there is a prevalence of hearing loss due to high sound pressure exposure in professional musicians.
