Currently, the globalization is now going on the opposite side of sustainability, since the greater the consumption and production, the more the environment is harmed, the residues produced, the atmospheric contamination and the exhaustive consumption of energy being the main cause of this impact. The increase in demand for products due to current spending habits, is seen as a major problem which consequently leads to increased production and thus increase environmental impacts. Then comes the need to implement sustainable processes in companies in order to reduce these impacts and also lower production costs. Therefore, this study aimed to demonstrate the importance of production in a sustainable way for present and future society through a brief literature review. As might be expected, it was concluded that there is an urgent need for change in production methods, with the advancement of technology, the introduction of new habits in the companies and the awareness of society on the environment the main hopes for this change to occur truly.
