Resumo: The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of root canal fillings performed by undergraduate students in Dentistry School at the Federal University of Sergipe - Campus Lagarto, and to quantify the prevalence of overfilling of these endodontic treatments. To evaluate the root canal fillings, data were collected from endodontic treatments performed by undergraduate students from February 2017 to February 2018. The analyzes evaluated the quality of the compaction density of the filling mass, the apical limit of obturation, the presence of accidental overfilling to the periapical tissues and the latter was followed-up concerning postoperative pain. Data were analyzed and tabulated as percentage in graphs and tables. It was observed that the female gender (75.55%) aging from 21 to 30 years (31.11%) predominated among the patients of the study. Regarding the students, 38.29% of the visits were made by the students of the 9th period. The second premolars were the most frequently treated teeth (27.65%), with the majority of treatments being concluded in 3 sessions (38.29%). Concerning the compaction density of the filling mass, incisors and canines (38.29%) demonstrated more frequently a satisfactory compaction quality, and most of the fillings (53.19%) was apically limited between 1 and 2 millimeters below the radiographic apex. The root canal overfilling was more prevalent in the incisors and canines (10.63%), and 83.33% of the patients did not report postoperative pain for up to six months of follow-up. The results indicated satisfactory quality of endodontic filling through the analyses of compaction density and apical limit of obturation, being similar to those reported by other Dentistry schools. In addition, overfilling of the material did not significantly influence postoperative pain.
