The research approaches the issue leadership and communication in the public management with focus to the leading role by the school principal. The main objetive was identifiyng challenges to the leadership exercise in a State school in the city of Itaporanga localized at Sergipe State and and the following specific objectives related to the environment studed are indicating the kind of leadership practiced in the school and analysing the relation betweeen the principal and professors. The study started from the work environment observation since the supervised training to the effectiveness in the secretary and whose job were developed by the researcher in the sphere of Executive Secretariat undergraduate course. The research has qualitative and descritive nature and uses case study as methodological approach with application of quiz with close and open questions to the principal and professors. With use of thoretical references and through the answers the result was the meaning of leader identified by these professionals in the studied environment and the kind of leadership practiced as well as its relation and effects in the work environment communication as elements which directly contributes to the quality and excellence of school management and wich also exposes the challenges of the leadership in the daily school management. The research were developed by the optic of the Executive Secretary in formation and justifies such leadership approaches as cross-curricular subject matter in the mentioned course.
