The present study is characterized as a bibliographical research focused on the theoretical-methodological discussion of the relationship between photography and Archeology, considering also the experiences developed by sister disciplines such as History and Anthropology. Thus, the content presented here includes reflections on the use of the photographic image as a tool for documentary recording, as a source of interpretation and visual narrative. It is concluded that, once the photographic document is aligned with the theoretical-methodological principles that guide the archaeological practice, and that due regard is given to its production, understanding the technical and theoretical elements that support it, it becomes a powerful tool for an archaeologic al practice better trained in the construction of interpretative discourses about the past social conjunctures, which have been reified in the present.
