Objectives: To evaluate the functionality and quality of life of elderly people with Alzheimer's disease (AD), in addition to characterize socio-demographic data and to compare the perception of the quality of life of the elderly in the visions of themselves and the caregiver. Methods: Ten individuals from the municipalities of Lagarto and Aracaju, aged 60 years or over, participated in the study. The instruments used in the data collection were the evaluation form, the clinical evaluation scale for dementia, the quality of life questionnaire and the Katz index. Results: The elderly had a mean age of 72.2 years (SD=8.02); weight 66.7 kg (SD=8.17) and height 1.64m (SD=0.09). The sample consisted of eight women (80%) and two men (20%), where eight were classified as mild dementia and two, moderate. The quality of life in the patient's vision presented a score of 35.2 points (dp = 6.89) and in the caregivers version, 31.9 points (dp = 4.53). In the Katz Index, the mean final score was 5 points (SD = 1.32). Conclusion: It was possible to observe that the functionality of the majority of the elderly remains unchanged, which may have been responsible for the similarity of perception about the quality of life of the elderly observed in the self reports and in the reports of the caregivers.
