The present study is the result of observations made from the experience of Curricular Internship in a multiprofessional space, at the Emergency Unit (UPA) 24h North Zone Dr. Nestor Piva, which motivated and aroused the interest for an investigative process in the elaboration of this Course Completion Work. The objective of the study was to understand the limits and possibilities of the Social Worker's work in face of the challenges encountered in the Unified Health System (SUS), in order to make professional work regarding their daily activities in the hospital space in view of this professional. To do so, we started with documentary and bibliographical research, presenting the path taken by Health Policy in Brazil, beginning in the 1930s, seeking to understand health as a public policy until the present decade, with the dismantling of the State and, consequently, in the lack of responsibility in this area, and in a brief history dealt with the trajectory of Social Work and its insertion in health over the years, based on some authors with theoretical foundation. The work was developed methodologically from the qualitative exploratory method, also employing the field research, seeking to know the vision of the social worker, from the perspective of the proposed objective, using the interview as instrumental. The descriptive work supported the analysis of the data obtained and the reflection on the reality experienced by the professionals, arriving at the results of the research, which showed the existence of difficulties imposed by the Health Policy and that these reflect directly in the work of the social worker.
