Análise epidemiológica da tuberculose em pessoas privadas de liberdade no Estado de Sergipe no período de 2014 a 2021

Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) still constitutes a public health problem in Brazil, due to the social and economic context of the country. Some groups are more vulnerable to infection, including people deprived of liberty (PDL), who have a risk of falling ill about 28 times higher than the general population, as they are exposed to conditions favorable to the spread of the disease. Objective: To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of tuberculosis in people deprived of liberty in the state of Sergipe from 2014 to 2021. Methods: This is a descriptive, retrospective, epidemiological study with a quantitative approach, based on data available in SINAN. Results: A total of 970 cases of TB in PDL were confirmed in Sergipe in the studied period, with a growing tendency between 2014 and 2019, and a decline in the number of cases from 2020. The predominant clinical form was pulmonary, and most affected inmates were male, aged 20 to 39 years, brown ethnicity, non-smokers, non-alcoholics and without coinfection with HIV. Conclusion: The number of confirmed cases of tuberculosis in people deprived of liberty corresponds to about 14% of the total population affected in Sergipe, evidencing the impact of the prison sector on disease prevalence rates. Based on the epidemiological analysis, measures can be developed to control the disease in the local reality, in order to significantly reduce the risk of infection in the prison population.
