Resumo: The inventory of urban trees in a city is very important to planning the urban forest because it allows us to identify and quantify the tree heritage; to diagnose current problems and predict future needs of management. Considering this situation, this study was carried out with the goal to recognize and quantify the floristic composition of 25 main avenues and streets of Aracaju City, Sergipe, Brazil. The inventory was realized by census in each avenue and street. 3,595 individuals distributed in 66 species were inventoried. Among these species, 10 species account for 86% of all individual evaluated, being the most frequent Pithecellobium dulce (22.61%); Ficus benjamina (18.69%); Cocus nucifera (9.68%), Licania tomentosa (8.12%), Terminalia catappa (7.15%); Anacardium occidentale (5.67%); Roystonea regia (4.56%); Casuarina equisetifolia (3.37%); Tabebuia aurea (3.17%) and Clitoria fairchildin (2.95%). In addition to this, irregularity in the distribution of tree individuals was also observed and an increased use of exotic species, representing 61% of the total. These characteristics show that Aracaju has a pattern of urban trees similar to that found in most Brazilian cities, characterized by the concentration of most individuals of a few species, lower species diversity between avenues and streets and great concentration of exotic species.
