INTRODUCTION: Cervical cancer (CC) is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in women and has a high incidence worldwide. This disease has high cure rates when identified early, as it has a slow evolution. One of the current strategies for early detection is regular Pap smear testing. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the quality and coverage of the cervical cancer screening program in the state of Sergipe. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An ecological time series study that aims to analyze the evolution of the quality and coverage of cervical cancer screening, in the state of Sergipe, from 2015 to 2021. The sample was based on secondary data available at the Department of Information Technology of the Unified Health System (DATASUS), through the Cancer Information System (SISCAN). subsequently, two blocks of indicators were calculated (coverage and quality) presented in the Technical Data Sheet on Indicators of Cervical Cancer Control Actions. Afterwards, the temporal trend analysis calculations were performed using the Joinpoint regression program version 4.9.1 (Statistical Research and Applications Branch, National Cancer Institute, United States). RESULTS: 576,721 thousand exams were analyzed in the period from 2015 to 2021, with 76.95% of these being performed in people aged between 25 and 64 years. With regard to coverage, throughout the period, it was below expectations, the lowest being 5.5% in 2020, and the highest being 10.9% in 2015. In addition, the program has low sensitivity for early detection of lesions , as it has low rates of positivity and representativeness of the transition zone (ZT). CONCLUSION: The research proved that the cervical cancer screening program in the state of Sergipe is far below the parameters determined by INCA. Therefore, the study hopes to contribute to reflection and improvement of actions in relation to the mentioned program established in the state.
