It can be said that the way in which the development and urbanization of Brazilian cities takes place has often adversely affected the quality of life of its inhabitants, proving unsustainable, mainly due to lack of planning. Much is due to the fact that in Brazil, the Public Power itself, prioritizing actions focused, in most cases, on economic and political issues, ends up ignoring preexisting urban and social fragilities, causing in several cases, severe damages to the environment. It is necessary to rethink the theoretical model of development adopted in order to find possible methods and solutions for these adversities. In the same way, intervening is also necessary. Problems such as these, accumulated over the last decades, have jeopardized the prosperity and existence worthy of countless communities, firmly establishing them on the margins of society without any effective prediction of changes. Thus, realizing the urgency and necessity of discussing this theme, based on ideals that enhance the vision and importance of balance and equity in urban environments and considering as a focal point the reality and needs of the object of study discussed here, the present work seeks to contribute theoretical studies and practical directions for the redevelopment of the São Miguel neighborhood, in Ilhéus-BA.
