Resumo: The present work focuses on waste management and 3R's principles (reduce, reuse and recycle), with the objective of demonstrating the main steps of solid waste management in a municipality in the interior of the state of São Paulo (Santa Ernestina), specifically the destination and management, an important step in reducing the improper disposal of waste. The method used in the research was based on studies of the Municipal Solid Waste Integrated Management Plan, documentation research, interviews with waste collection professionals and engineer responsible for the final destination, quantitative assessments and visits in generation environments of waste in the municipality. With the implementation of solid waste management in the municipality, more satisfactory results were obtained in the management and final disposal of the waste. The places that did not perform the correct waste management started to practice the principles 3R's, fulfilling legal requirements, through reuse and recycling, instead of being simply discarded in landfills.

O método utilizado na pesquisa se baseou em estudos do Plano de Gestão Integrado de Resíduos Sólidos do município, pesquisa das documentações, entrevistas com os profissionais das áreas de coleta de resíduos e engenheiro responsável pela destinação final, avaliações quantitativas e visitas em ambientes de geração de resíduos no município. Com a implantação do gerenciamento dos resíduos sólidos no município, obtiveram-se resultados mais satisfatórios no manejo e disposição final do resíduo.
