This research about the meaning of work between generations of workers involved in cashew nut processing used the meaning of work as a subjective and social cognition. The investigation included 100 parents and 100 children who processed cashew nuts, applying a socio-work questionnaire, and the Meaning of Work Inventory. Using descriptive and inferential analyses, the results indicated that, in the parents' group, three valuation clusters were formed: Dialectic, Optimistic, and Acritical; and four descriptive: Satisfied, Instrumental, Conflicting, and Unappreciated. In the children's group, six valuation clusters were formed: Dialectic, Acritical, Optimistic, Recognized, Indifferent, and Welcoming; and five descriptive clusters: Conflicting, Challenging, Satisfied, Pitiful, and Neutral. In short, parents demonstrated optimism in the valuation attributes, but felt unappreciated in the descriptive attributes. While the children had a dialectic vision of what work should be and how it really is.
