Alterações auditivas em indivíduos com distúrbios do sono: revisão de literatura

Introduction: Several studies indicate the occurrence of respiratory events during sleep, as apnea and hypopnea. These events can impair the transmission of nerve impulses through auditory pathway, since they are highly dependent of oxygen supply. Furthermore, the hypotonia of oropharyngeal musculature can harm the correct operation of auditory tube, provoking modifications in middle ear. Propuse: The objective of this work is to verify the relations among respiratory sleep disorders and alterations in auditory system functions. Methods: The methodology is based on bibliographic research on electronic database: Medical literature Analysis and Retrivel System online (MEDLINE), Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (Lilacs), Scientific Electronic Library Online (scielo) and PUBMED. The keywords used for search was the following: Apnea (apneia), Snoring (ronco), Hearing (audição) and Hearing loss (perda auditiva) in both languages, English and Portuguese. The inclusion criterion was to select full papers with this theme proposed here published from 2008 until 2018. Results: As for results and discussions, it was found at the end of this research 256 papers. Based on the papers title, it was selected 51 for abstract reading. After this reading only 18 were left. The types of alterations found were the following: Obstructive Sleep Apnea/ Hypopnea Syndrome, altered auditory processing and tinnitus. Conclusion: The conclusion after the analysis of the papers chosen is that it was attested a relation between respiratory sleep disorders, especially Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome, and problems with the correct function of auditory system.
