Influência do aleitamento materno no estado nutricional antropométrico de crianças em unidades de educação infantil do município de Lagarto/SE

Studies agree that the early termination of Exclusive Breastfeeding (EB) and Breastfeeding (MA) contributes to malnutrition or overweight. In Brazil there was an increase in duration, but it is still necessary to reach the recommendation of the World Health Organization (WHO). The objective of this research is to relate the duration of breastfeeding to the anthropometric profile of children. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive, quantitative study in three Municipal Units of Early Childhood Education of Lagarto/SE. The sample consisted of 39 children aged between 6 months and <24 months, in whom the anthropometry was evaluated and the questionnaire for mothers / caregivers was used to know the duration of breastfeeding. With EB, overweight and obesity were lower (23,1% both), revealing its protective effect, and with their early interruption, overweight and obesity were higher (34,6% both). The MA indicated to be a protector of obesity, being smaller (16,7%), and non-MA favored obesity and the risk of overweight that were shown to be increased (37% both). For Complementary breastfeeding (CB), obesity was lower (18,2%), identifying its protective effect, and with non-CB, obesity and the risk of overweight were favored (35,7% both). EB, MA and CB had a protective effect for most children against overweight and obesity, although there were many at risk of overweight, possibly due to inadequate supplementary feeding. The percentages suggest that EB, MA, and CB protected from malnutrition, overweight, and obesity.
