The restoration of devitalized teeth is accompanied by doubts for the clinician as to how best to act on these elements that may fracture during the function. This fragility comes from the loss of dental tissues during removal of the carious lesion and access to the canal. Biomechanical failures may also occur when the restoration is extensive, or even consistent with intraradicular pinning. The present literature review aimed to understand the biomechanical behavior of teeth endodontically treated and rehabilitated with endocrown crowns and teeth with fused intraradicular retainer. The data collection was done in Lilacs, PubMed, Scielo, Web of Science databases with inclusion criteria for articles that addressed biomechanical behavioral tests on pulpfree teeth that were rehabilitated with endocrown or with fused intraradicular retainer. The results of this review share with the data analyzed in the literature where the loss of the supporting structures weakens the tooth, causing a greater risk of fracture of the dental remnant. Although the search strategies used did not allow finding work comparing the two materials, it is possible to conclude that the use of cast intrarradicular retainers, although well accepted, promotes greater tooth wear, reducing tooth resistance, while the endocrown technique allows the conservation of dentin and peripheral enamel, maintaining marginal stability and greater resistance to masticatory loads, in addition to less invasive preparations.
