Resumo: Hyptis pectinata, popularly known as "sambacaitá" or "canudinho", is used in folk medicine due to its analgesic, anti-inflammatory and healing properties, as well as in the fight against bacterial infections. Due to the difficulties in obtaining good results with the traditional methods for healing, more modern techniques have been developed and tested, including the use of negative pressure in wounds. Thus, the objective of this work was to develop and characterize sponges containing H. pectinata dry extract. Initially, the vegetal drug, the extractive solution and the dry extract of H. pectinata were characterized physico-chemically, as recommended by the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia V (2010). Quantification of total phenolic and flavonoid compounds and antioxidant activity of DEHP against DPPH radical and reductive iron capacity (FRAP) were performed. The developed sponges were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis and derivative thermogravimetry (TG / DTG), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and swelling ability. The results were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) of one way, followed by the post-test of Tukey, considering significant differences with p<0.05. The total ash, dry matter loss and moisture content of the vegetal drug were: 6.8 ± 0.027%; 9.46 ± 0.0017%; 10.62 ± 0.112%, respectively, as recommended in the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia V (2010). The pH, density and dry matter of SEHP were: 5.88 ± 0.011; 0.90 ± 0.012 g / mL; 1.53 ± 0.05%. The DEHP presented low flow properties and spherical characteristic microscopy and heterogeneous distribution. The following compounds were identified in the chemical characterization of DEHP: caffeic acid, isoquercitrin and rutin. The total phenol content of DEHP was 824.06 ± 1.11 mg EAG / g extract and total flavonoids was 187.95 ± 3.31 mg ECAT / g extract. The DEHP presented antioxidant activity against the radical DPPH (IC50 = 25.22 μg / mL) and iron reduction capacity (50 μg / mL). The results of the physicochemical characterization of the vegetal drug, extractive solution and dry extract of H. pectinata demonstrated compliance with the limits established by the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia and literature data. The obtained sponges present good swelling capacity and adequate porosity, besides being able to incorporate the dried extract efficiently.
