Perfil epidemiológico do acometimento cardíaco crônico pela febre reumática no Estado de Sergipe entre 2012 a 2021

Chronic cardiac involvement (CCA) associated with rheumatic fever (RF) is a condition that frequently requires hospitalizations for clinical management. The analysis of the epidemiological profile of these hospitalizations is relevant to understanding the care offered. Therefore, the objective of this study was to analyze the epidemiological profile of hospitalizations for ACC associated with RF in the last ten years in the state of Sergipe. An ecological, analytical and quantitative study was carried out, with data collected from the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS) regarding the number of hospitalizations, deaths, expenses and length of stay for ACC associated with RF between 2012 and 2021 in Sergipe. Data were statistically analyzed with a significance level (P) of 5%. During this period, there were 1,069 hospitalizations and 113 deaths attributed to ACC associated with RF, resulting in a hospital mortality rate of 10.6% in Sergipe. Furthermore, the in-hospital mortality rate for ACC associated with RF showed a significantly increasing temporal trend (P-value = 0.016). In parallel, length of stay (in days) and expenses with hospitalizations for ACC associated with RF also showed a significantly increasing trend (P value = 0.014). Higher hospital mortality rate was observed in the age range of 60 years or older (19%). It is concluded that the ACC by RF demands actions of monitoring and evaluation of care, since morbidity and mortality and health expenses have not shown a reduction in the last ten years in the state of Sergipe.
