Resumo: Biosurfactants are alternative bioproducts with a higher sustainability profile compared to synthesized surfactants. These compounds are utilized in various industrial processes as well as in the field of bioremediation. Furthermore, they can be obtained from substrates derived from agro-industrial waste, adding value to these materials while avoiding negative impacts in case of improper disposal in the ecosystem. In this regard, this study discusses, based on a recent literature analysis, the use of agro-industrial waste in the production of biosurfactants, as well as their applications in bioremediation. The sustainable potential of these compounds is highlighted, as they encompass their production to their applicability in bioremediation processes.
