This Project intends to analyze the promotion of public policies focused on gender equality in Brazil through the recommendations of the Committee for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW Committee). Therefore, an overview of the international system for human rights protection alongside the role of the UN as the main promotor of this system will be drawn, allied to a search of all Brazilian initiatives for gender equality promotion. Finally, the seven reports sent from the Brazilian government to the CEDAW Committee, which refer to the period between 1985 and 2009 will be examined, as well as the Recommendations made by the Committee. Thereby, it is intended to understand if the Brazilian government has been implementing policies that promote gender equality and the Human Rights of women, in compliance with the Recommendations made by the Committee.
