Resumo: Introduction: Many pesticides are identified as endocrine disruptors (ED), compounds that change markers of thyroid function. People who come in contact with these products, in work activities, in the environment, in domestic or accidental use are at risk. General objective this study was to determine plasma levels thyroid hormones in rural workers. Methodology: This is a cross-sectionall study. 208 rural workers participated in city of Boquim-SE. Plasma concentrations of autoimmunity markers against thyroid: autoantibodies to thyroid peroxidase (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb), and thyroid hormones were analyzed: Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Free Thyroxine (FT4) and total Triiodothyronine (TT3) in the serum of all patients. Socioeconomic and sociodemographic parameters were analyzed. For the test of association of the categorical variables, the Chi-Square test or Fisher's exact test was used. Continuous variables were expressed as mean ± standard deviation. The association test of two groups for continuous variables with non-parametric distribution was used the Mann Whitney U test. In all tests, the level of significance was set at p <0.05. Results and discussion: The population is predominantly male (161/77.4%), it is predominantly age group between 40 and 59 years old (104/51.2%), is brown or black (150/82.4%), majority are illiterate (90/49.5%) with up to elementary school I incomplete. Majority residing in rural area (131/72%) and belong social classes D and E (92/ 50.8%). Total T3 levels ranged from 0.7 to 2.4 ng / mL with 3.2%(6) altered, free T4 levels ranged from 0.52 to 1.5 ng / dL with change in 41.4%(79) and levels ranged from 0.1 µIU / mL to 17.2 µUI / mL with 10.5%(20) altered. Autoantibodies to TPO was detected in 14.7%(28) of samples and TgAb in 9.3%(17). Presence of autoimmunity, characterized by presence of one or both markers, was found in 22%(40) of sample. TSH average for patients with positive autoimmunity (4.4 ± 5.2 µU / L) was higher than that found for negative patients (2.5 ± 2.3 µU / L). Frank hypothyroidism was found in 4.2%(8) and subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH), in 4.7%(9) of sample. Frank hyperthyroidism was found in 1%(2) of the sample and subclinical hyperthyroidism was detected in only one patient.

Pessoas que entram em contato com esses produtos, em atividades laborais, no meio ambiente, na utilização doméstica ou acidental estão em risco. O objetivo desse estudo foi determinar os níveis plasmáticos de hormônios tireoidianos em trabalhadores rurais. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo descritivo transversal. Participaram 208 trabalhadores rurais do município de Boquim-SE. Foram analisadas as concentrações plasmáticas dos marcadores de autoimunidade contra a tireóide: anti-Tireoperoxidase (anti-TPO) e anti-Tireoglobulina (anti-Tg), e dos hormônios tireoidianos: Hormônio Estimulador da Tireóide (TSH), Tiroxina livre (T4L) e Triiodotironina total (T3T) no soro de todos os pacientes. Os parâmetros socioeconômicos e sociodemográficos foram analisados. Para teste de associação das variáveis categóricas, utilizou-se o teste Qui- Quadrado ou Teste Exato de Fisher. Variáveis contínuas foram expressas em média ± desvio padrão Os testes de associação de dois grupos, para variáveis contínuas com distribuição não-paramétrica foi utilizado o teste U de Mann Whitney. Em todos os testes o nível de significância adotado foi de p<0,05. Resultados e conclusões: A população é predominantemente masculina (161/77,4%), encontra-se predominantemente, na faixa etária entre 40 e 59 anos (104/51,2%); pardos ou negros (150/82,4%); maioria analfabetos funcionais (90/49,5%) com até o ensino fundamental I incompleto. A maioria residente na zona rural (131/72%) e pertencente às classes sociais D e E (92/50,8%). Os níveis de T3 total variaram de 0,7 a 2,4 ng/mL com 3,2%(6) alterados, os níveis de T4 livre variaram de 0,52 a 1,5 ng/dL com alteração em 41,4%(79) e os níveis de TSH variaram de 0,1 µUI/mL a 17,2 µUI/mL com 10,5%(20) alterados. O anticorpo Anti-TPO foi detectado em 14,7%(28) das amostras e o Anti-Tg em 9,3%(17). A presença de autoimunidade, caracterizada pela presença de um ou de ambos os marcadores, foi encontrada em 22%(40) da amostra. A média do TSH para os pacientes com autoimunidade positiva (4,4 ± 5,2 µU/L) foi maior que a encontrada para os pacientes negativos (2,5 ± 2,3 µU/L). O hipotireoidismo franco foi encontrado em 4,2%(8) e o hipotireoidismo subclínico (HSC), em 4,7%(9) da amostra.
