Avaliação da capacidade funcional de irmãs com distrofia muscular de cinturas: relato de caso

Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD) relates to a group of hereditary progressive myopathies, characterized by muscle weakness, which reaches, particularly, shoulder and pelvic girdle muscles, in both females and males. The aim of this study was to evaluate the functional capacity of two sisters with LGMD, in diferente ages, through physical therapy evaluation. Participants were a girl, 10 years old, and a woman, 26 years old. The instruments used were: photographic camera, universal goniometer and the Medical Research Council (MRC) Motor Function Measurement (MFM), Functional Independence Measure (MIF), Brooke and Vignos scales. Postural deviations, articular movement range reduction and weakness were identified, more evident in participant 2. In the MFM scale, participant 1 scored 93, and participant 2 scored 54; na FIM, participants 1 and 2 scored 120 and 103, respectively; in the Brooke and Vignos scale, participant 1 present better results than participant 2; in the ICF, difficulties were related to environmental barriers and to daily life activities. The results suggest that physical therapy evaluation of individuals with LGMD can help in the identification of the disease severity and adequate therapeutic conducts and in the monitoration of progress of the patient. Functional repercussions identified in participants with LGMD incentivate new researches about the existence of cases in the same family in individuals in diferente age range.
