Introduction: The correct execution for screening of precursor lesions of cervical cancer must be done with an adequate frequency avoiding its low realization and its excesses, due to the impacts on Women’s Health and Brazilian Unique Health System. Objective: To identify the standard execution of Papanicolaou tests realized in Dr. Davi Marcos de Lima’s Health Care Center, placed in the city of Lagarto-SE, in order to know its profile of frequency, its causes and implications. Methods: It is a cross-sectional study which consisted of the assessment by a questionnaire about Papanicolaou test execution applied to 161 users of Dr. Davi Marcos de Lima’s Health Care Center who had previously started their sexual lives, followed by the comparison between the data obtained and what is stablished by Brazilian Ministry for Health. Results and Discussion: It was found 87.5% of the interviewed patients had already undergone a Papanicolau test, considering that 78% started undergoing that examination before the age of 25 (after their sexual life's beginning). About the periodicity, they undergo: 34.8% said once a year; 27.7% do not have a regular time interval; 18.4% had undergone the test once; 17%, once a semester; and 2.1% once two years. It is noticed 53.9% of the patients undergo the test in a frequency bigger than the one stablished by Brazilian Ministry for Health. When they were asked about the reasons for that behavior of doing the Smear Test, 19.8% stated it was recommended by a health professional, 17% believed it is safer; 15.6% believed it is correct; 14.8% only do if symptoms are present; and 11.3% are shamed on the test.Conclusion: It is noticed there is an inadequate standard execution of the Smear Test in Dr. Davi Marcos de Lima’s Health Care Center, happening in a frequency more elevated than the one stablished by Brazilian Ministry for Health due to an equivocated orientation of some health professionals, followed by the fact the user believes the way she is doing is the safest or the most correct. Despite of existing factors that lead the users to a lower search for the test (shame or lack of symptoms, for instance), they still undergo in a bigger frequency than the one recommended. Before that, the necessity for proposing means to change that reality exists, such as the implementation of the Women's Health Card.
