Resumo: | This study aimed to investigate the presence of burnout among critical care physicians, and possible predictors of the syndrome. The Maslach Burnout Inventory were used (MBI-HSS) and a questionnaire for socio-demographic and employment characteristics. The sample consisted of 122 intensive care physicians, who work in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) for at least six months. Participants were mostly married (61.5%), with children (66.4%) and mean age 38.7 years (SD = 8.39), with no predominance of gender (50.8% male). The results indicate high levels of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, and low levels of personal accomplishment. Thus, it was observed that 42.6% of participants had positive diagnosis of the syndrome. The factors identified as predictors were working in the ICU of necessity; to feel overwhelmed; experience a stressful relationship with co-workers; do not use the free time to watch TV and sleep. Considering the labor context in which they operate critical care physicians, such findings may contribute to the area with the addition of empirical evidence about precarious work in the context of ICUs that serve as the basis for carrying out prevention and intervention programs with this professional class. |
