Resumo: | The study of graphite occurrences in the northeast of the São Francisco Craton allowed the identification of graphite mineralized paragneisses and quartzite bodies inserted in the Esplanada-Boquim Granulitic Complex and the Rio Real-Itabaianinha-Riachão do Dantas Migmatite-Gneiss Complex. Petrographic studies showed that the paragneiss is represented by hypersthene-cordierite-graphite-garnet gneiss, formed by high grade metamorphism, in granulite facies, imposed on a sedimentary protolith. However, quartzites correspond to graphite-K-feldspar-cordierite quartzites, which were formed by the high-grade metamorphism of a quartz rich sedimentary rock, between amphibolite and granulite facies. The high-grade metamorphism conditions identified in the studied rocks are considered ideal for the Flake type formation, which present the best market values. Geochemical studies have suggested that the paragneiss’ protholiths may have been shales formed by intemperism of mafic igneous rocks generated in subduction - related environments, while quartzites derived from quartz sandstones from granitic rocks also in a subduction - related environment. In both cases the graphite confirms that there was availability of organic matter during the sedimentation of the protoliths. Based on the petrographic characterization of the graphites, it was possible to observe that the graphite of the paragneiss vary from the fine flakes to the extra large flakes, with a predominance of large flakes, while the graphite of the quartzites is classified as extra large flakes. Both rocks show that they originated from syngenetic mineralizing processes, formed from the transformation of primary organic matter into graphite through regional metamorphism |

Estudos petrográficos demonstraram que o paragnaisse é representado por um hiperstênio-cordierita-grafita-granada gnaisse formado pelo metamorfismo de alto grau, na fácies granulito, imposto a um protólito sedimentar. E, no entanto, que os quartzitos correspondem à grafita-K-feldspato-cordierita quartzitos, que foram formados pelo metamorfismo de alto grau de uma rocha sedimentar rica em quartzo, entre as fácies anfibolito e granulito. As condições de metamorfismo de alto grau, identificadas nas rochas estudadas, são consideradas ideais para a formação de grafitas tipo Flake, que apresentam os melhores valores de mercado. Estudos geoquímicos sugeriram que os protólitos dos paragnaisses podem ter sido folhelhos provenientes de rochas ígneas máficas em ambientes relacionados com subducção, enquanto que os quartzitos derivaram de arenitos quarzosos provenientes de rochas graníticas também em ambiente relacionado com subducção. Em ambos os casos a grafita constata que houve disponibilidade de matéria orgânica durante a sedimentação dos protólitos. Com base na caracterização petrográfica das grafitas, foi possível observar que a grafita dos paragnaisses variam dos tipos flakes finos a flakes extragrandes, com predomínio de flakes grandes, enquanto que a grafita dos quartzitos é classificada como flakes extragrandes.
