Resumo: The relevance of phytotherapy in the folk medecine is well known, the community uses many vegetal species at their home preparations as infusions and decoctions in order to assist their therapeutical needs. In the state of Sergipe, it’s known the importance of the species Eplingiella fruticosa, popularly known as “alecrim-do-campo” or “alecrim-de-tabuleiro”, at the pain treatment. Owing to the popular use of this species, there are reports in the literature that testifies farmacologial activities related to diferent types of stem, leaf and roots extracts, and also that demonstrates the isolation of two new molecules using spectroscopic techniques. Owing to that, the objective of this work was to isolate and to identify the chemical constituents of the leafs of E. fruticosa present in it’s ethanol extract. To achieve that, from the collection and identification of the plant material, the ethanol extract of E. fruticosa was obtained, then, the chemical fractionation was performed and the hexane, chloroform and ethyl acetate fases were obtained. The chloroform fase was submitted to the chromatographic fractionation at silica gel chromatographic column and the fractions obtained were analyzed using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. In the fractions 34-35 of the chloroform fase’s spectrum was observed caracteristics signs belonging to the triterpenes class, which were confirmed at the extension in the region of 0,5 to 1,45 ppm. Analyzing the nuclear magnetic resonance spectrums of the selected fractions it was detected the presence of triterpenes.
