The regardless of their specialty, libraries present as a latent concern, management, processing and dissemination of information as well as documentaries products incurred in providing assertive and present their information products and services for users with different information needs, that these needs can be met through a personalized service for dissemination. Within this perspective, this paper presents general objective is to characterize the Information Dissemination /DI and Selective Dissemination of Information / DSI, emphasizing the features, concepts, genesis and evolution of the latter. Constitute specific objectives: to highlight the contribution of the librarian in the selective dissemination of information, analyze the steps of planning a service DSI and lastly, identify trends DSI. Was used as a methodology, literature review, a survey in primary, secondary and tertiary selection of documents from the criteria of relevance with respect to the main subjects of this research and readings of selected texts and documentation sources. The results of this survey, we saw the importance of DI and DSI make reference librarian, as well as its origin and evolution in time and space, the imperative of planning these services to optimize the service user and the trends in this theme, are being positively impacted by information and communication technologies (TIC).
