Resumo: This study aims to know and understand the importance of animals in archaeological iconography, particularly the horse, taking as a case study of its representation on the coins of Carthage (now Tunis, Tunisia), with the purpose of talking about the trajectory of an ancient society, on the nineth century (foundation of the city) and during the Punic Wars (264-146 BC), which went through several times of war, in which these animals, and represented iconographically, were used as an "instrument of war", being decisive in some battles. Thus, it is possible to understand the various contexts involving these animals from the stories of these imagetic representations contained in the coins
