Reference work that aims to present the Museums and Art Galleries in the State of Sergipe, the role of the information professional in these institutions and the community as it relates to these informational units. After the institutions are identified and described, stood their importance as instruments of preserving the memory of Sergipe. We also analyzed the way in which the information is being made in these units. Search exploratory and descriptive. How to approach characterized as qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative explored because subjective aspects of the users or potential users of the information units, along with a bibliography of the theoretical / conceptual about museums and art galleries. The application of three hundred questionnaires to two groups of 150 individuals - students and non-students - was the basis for the analysis of population-interaction information units, characterizing it as well as quantitative. Despite the existence of professionals museology graduates in the labor market Sergipe, these, and other professionals involved in information science does not work in institutions in the state of Sergipe. Within this framework it has been shown here to be essential the presence of these professionals to better treatment and dissemination of informational load among the members of a democratic society, without distinction of race, creed or social class, making it indeed Society information.
