The screening program for hepatocellular carcinoma has been increasingly proposed due to its increased incidence and is currently the sixth most diagnosed malignant disease worldwide. There are few studies conducted in Brazil that address epidemiology and therapy used. Thus, this project aims to determine the number of patients diagnosed with HCC during screening and the predictive factors related to diagnosis and adherence to the screening program at the University of Sergipe. This is an analytical, observational and cross-sectional study, carried out at the Hepatology Outpatient Clinic of the Sergipe University Hospital, from November 2018 to August 2019. The following variables were investigated: age, gender, origin, etiology of cirrhosis, CHILD, MELD, AFP in those patients who had this data available, number of scheduled and performed US, number of scheduled and missed examinations and interval between examinations, follow-up and diagnosis. In this study, the diagnosis of HCC was made in 6.4% of patients, on average 37 months after the start of the screening program and after 6 US. Patients with alcoholic etiology of cirrhosis, AFP> 5ng / ml and previous resection have a higher risk of developing HCC during screening. Therefore, it can be seen that the HCC screening program was effective in making the tumor diagnosis, showing a higher risk population, such as patients with alcoholic cirrhosis, elevated AFP and after previous treatment from CHC.
