Resumo: | In this study, the main ideas of educator Geraldo Bastos Silva, published in Brazilian periodicals, in the 1950s and 1960s, are analyzed. These are publications in two important media on government actions and policies: the Brazilian Journal of Pedagogical Studies (published by INEP/MEC) and the Public Service Magazine. Bastos Silva's theoretical production is characterized as an important set of references for studies on Brazilian education, especially secondary education. Due to his work at the MEC, his productions are also based on research on the role of Brazilian intellectuals in the definition of educational public policies in the second half of the 20th century. Bearer of a critical discourse, the author defended conceptions of modernization of education, within a broader development context, in vogue in Brazil at that time. From the broadening of theoretical and methodological perspectives of research in History of Education, with emphasis on the theme of History of Pedagogical Ideas, Chartier (2002) were used to understand that the circulation of ideas in journals, it is able to move and weave a network of relationships and meanings that produce and legitimize a given pedagogical configuration. |

São publicações realizadas em dois importantes meios de comunicação de ações e políticas governamentais: a Revista Brasileira de Estudos Pedagógicos (publicada pelo INEP/MEC) e a Revista do Serviço Público. A produção teórica de Bastos Silva se caracteriza como um importante conjunto de referências para estudos sobre o ensino brasileiro, sobretudo, o ensino secundário. Por conta de sua atuação no MEC, suas produções também baseiam pesquisas sobre o papel de intelectuais brasileiros na definição de políticas públicas educacionais, na segunda metade do século XX. Portador de um discurso crítico, o autor defendeu concepções de modernização do ensino, dentro de um contexto de desenvolvimento mais amplo, em voga no Brasil, naquele período.
