Resumo: Introduction: Water is of great importance to the health of the population. However, when contaminated, it can carry innumerable diseases and this transmission can occur through different mechanisms. The mechanism of disease transmission most commonly remembered and directly related to water quality is that of ingestion, whereby a healthy individual ingests water containing a component harmful to health and the presence of this component in the human body causes the onset of disease. Part of the municipality of Lagarto is supplied by the reservoir Dionísio Machado and has as main uses, human, agricultural and recreational purposes. Objective: To evaluate the microbiological quality of the water of the reservoir Dionísio Machado, in the municipality of Lagarto-SE. Methods: 6 samples of water were collected from different points of the Dionísio Machado reservoir. The microbiological characterization was conducted according to the methodology described in the Manual of Sanitary and Environmental Microbiology Techniques (2017) and the Practical Manual of Water Analysis (2013) of total, thermally tolerant coliforms. Results: The NMP / 100 mL indices obtained in the samples showed the presence of total and thermally tolerant coliforms at all points. These indices exceed 1000 thermally tolerant coliforms per 100 mL, being higher than the maximum value established by CONAMA Resolution No. 357 for bathing, being then unfit for bathing and for consumption according to Ordinance No. 2,914 and PORTAL No. 518. Conclusion: The results of the research showed that the water of the Dionísio Machado reservoir is contaminated by thermally tolerant coliforms, with amounts greater than 1000 N per 100 mL of water, which characterizes it as unfit for consumption and for bathing.

No entanto, quando contaminada, pode veicular inúmeras enfermidades e essa transmissão pode se dar por diferentes mecanismos. O mecanismo de transmissão de doenças mais comumente lembrado e diretamente relacionado à qualidade da água é o da ingestão, por meio do qual um indivíduo sadio ingere água que contenha componente nocivo à saúde e a presença desse componente no organismo humano provoca o aparecimento de doença. Parte do município de Lagarto é abastecida pelo reservatório Dionísio Machado e tem como principais usos, abastecimento humano, agrícola e para fins recreativos. Objetivo: Avaliar a qualidade microbiológica da água do reservatório Dionísio Machado, do município de Lagarto- SE. Métodos: foram coletadas 6 amostras de água de diferentes pontos do reservatório Dionísio Machado. A caracterização microbiológica foi conduzida, de acordo com a metodologia descrita no manual de Técnicas de Microbiologia Sanitária e Ambiental (2017) e o Manual Prático de Análise de Água (2013) de coliformes totais, termo tolerantes. Resultados: Os índices de Número Mais Provável NMP/100 mL obtidos nas amostras apresentaram presença de coliformes totais e termo tolerantes em todos os pontos. Esses índices superam 2500 coliformes termo tolerantes por 100 mL, sendo superior ao valor máximo estabelecido pela Resolução nº 274/2000 do CONAMA para balneabilidade e fora dos padrões preconizados para potabilidade segundo a Portaria nº 2.914/2011 e a Portaria nº 518/2004 ambas do Ministério da Saúde.
