Resumo: | INTRODUCTION: The natural aging process involves a lot of biological transformations intrinsic to the organism, in a gradual way, which may result in huge impacts, such as physical incapacity, falls occurrence and consequent fracture. OBJECTIVES: Evaluate the functionality of elders hospitalized due to femur fracture because of a fall and characterize the profile of elders hospitalized and compare the functionality according to the age and number of falls. METHODOLOGY: The study was of transversal and descriptive, developed in the HUL, from September to November 2019. A questionnaire was applied to evaluate the sociodemographic, clinic and health aspects and a evaluation of functional condition was made through the Daily Life Instrumental Activities Scale (DLIA) developed by Lawton and Brody. RESULTS: 13 hospitalized elders were included, with mean duration of hospitalization 42,46h, due to femur fracture due to a fall. The mean age was 82,53± 8,19 years, where 10 individuals (76,92%) were of the female gender, 9 presented more 80 years or more of age, 11 were considered brown, 9 were widows, 5 had middle school incomplete and 7 with a monthly income of less than 1 minimum wage. The average functionality of the elderly was 13.77 ± 3.49 points on DLIA scale. Most of them presented chronic comorbidities, being the most common ones arterial hypertension (53,85%), followed by arthrosis (38,46%), Diabetes Mellitus (30,77%) and osteoporosis (23,08%). CONCLUSION: The elders were classified as partially dependents on AIVD’S. Most of them were women, with 80 years or more and that fell recurrently, however there wasn’t a difference on functionality due to age and number of falls. |
