Relação entre os resultados do potencial evocado P300 e da escala de depressão geriátrica

Introduction: Individuals with depression may present auditory and cognitive alterations due to pathological state and / or use of medications that may compromise communication and quality of life. Thus, Auditory Evoked Potentials has been an important tool to evaluate these changes that occur in the peripheral and central auditory system. Objective: Relate the results of Cognitive Potential P300 with depressive symptoms in the elderly. Materials and Methods: It was performed at the Clinic School of Speech and Hearing Therapy of the Federal University of Sergipe, Campus Lagarto, with elderly people of both genders. The Geriatric Depression Scale (EGD-15) was used to assess the signs suggestive of depression. For the realization of the P300 cognitive potential, an audiological evaluation was initially performed by means of pure tone audiometry, logoaudiometry and immitance testing. Results: 13 participants participated who met the inclusion criteria in the study, of which two, (15.38%) were male participants and 11 (84.9%) were female participants. The mean age of the participants was 65.2, the median 65 and the standard deviation 4.2. The mean number of years studied for literacy was 6.5 years, the median 8 and the standard deviation 5.3, and two (15.38%) participants were not literate. Four participants (30.76%) were excluded from the study because they did not complete the battery of exams (15.38%), and two (15.38%) had severe hearing loss. Conclusion: No significant relations were observed between the performance assessed in GDS and P300 results in the population studied.
