The renewable energy is increasingly essential in the current world scenario, and among them are the biofuels, seen as alternatives to replace the diesel petroleum derived. In 2004, the Brazilian government launched the National Program for Production and Use of Biodiesel – PNPB, that besides to economic and environmental aspects, aims to reduce social problems in disadvantaged regions of the country, inserting the small farmers in the biodiesel production chain. In this context, this literature review is to analyze the development of biodiesel in Brazil, and also the current scenario, which includes soy as the main raw material. As a result it was observed that Brazil has a huge production capacity, as it has a wide range of oilseeds capable of producing biodiesel, consolidating more and more as one of the largest biofuels producers in the world.
