Comunicação museológica em museus históricos: análise da expografia do Palácio Museu Olímpio Campos

The article aims to analyze the expographic narrative of the long-term exhibition at Palace Museum Olímpio Campos (PMOC), observing the silences regarding socio-cultural aspects linked to the popular classes to the detriment of a predilection for the presentation of the political history of Sergipe. The institution, located in the center of the city of Aracaju-SE, is a building from the second half of the 19th century built when the capital was moved from São Cristóvão to Aracaju and which was used, for decades, as a government palace and residence of the governor. In general, historical museums (representatives of national, regional or local history) have as their main characteristic an expographic narrative that highlights illustrious figures, symbolic political events and economic power to the detriment of representations that involve portraying the people, socialm problems or aspects of the daily life of the population.Historical museums, including the PMOC, publicize hegemonic discourses and select objects in line with official history, in a demonstration of wealth and power based on an exhibition that seeks to captivate the visitor with objects linked to the elite and the description of a long tradition local political and economic strength.The study observes the need to include the presence of the people in the expographic discourse in order to highlight the population's protagonism in various political-social events as well as aspects of the daily lives of Sergipe residents.The theoretical contributions are related to museum communication and expographic narrative in historical museums. The methodology used was qualitative analysis, based on bibliographic and documentary sources and on-site investigation of the exhibition narrative in order to highlight, based on its description and critical analysis, issues that can be reviewed in the museum's exhibition.
