Resumo: According to the American Diabetes Association, Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metastatic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia, metabolic disorders and other changes resulting from the destruction of beta cells in the pancreas, resistance to action and / or insulin, being caused by genetic and environmental factors. Which sums cause irreversible complications. It is one of the major public health problems in the world, especially in developing countries, with considerable representation in health-related expenditures, as well as the impact on morbidity and mortality of the general population. Objective: describing the profile of type II diabetic patients admitted to the teaching Hospital in Lagarto city from January to December 2017. Materials and Methods: It was realized a cross-sectional, quantitative and retrospective study. This study was based on demographic, clinical and laboratorial data, obtained from the analysis of medical reports of patients hospitalized at the Clinical Medical of the teaching Hospital in Lagarto city, from January to December 2017. The data were selected from an adapted questionnaire containing ten variables and organized in the Microsoft Excel 2016, and then, after that, the software R-project, version 3.4.3 and the T-Studente test were used. A total of 197 medical reports were analyzed, with a mean age of 61 years, without gender predominance, 56% of the patients were brown, 74.6% were illiterate, and 72% were from the Lagarto city. Most of the patients were admitted for CVA, cardiovascular complications were the most prevalent among inpatients.74percentage of the patients had an improvement in the acute condition, being referred to basic care for follow-up. The hospitalizations due to DM have a strong conexion with inadequate follow-up in primary care, since many reasons for hospitalization found in this study are sensitive conditions for basic care.
