Resumo: The study area is represented by theTesouro Deposit located in Minas Gerais State, in the Southeast portion of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero, at the Ouro Preto municipality. The deposit shows an area of approximately 1,245.13 km² and represents about 18% of the 7,160 km² of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero area. This work aimed to geological mapping and assessment of iron ore reserves at the Tesouro Deposit. This iron ore deposit is associated stratigraphically with the Sabará Group, which belongs to the Estrada Real Supergroup of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero. In the development of this work, topographic, geochemical, and geophysical data were used as a way of evaluating the economic potential of the iron ore deposit. The geochemical mapping carried out on the canga and itabirite from the Tesouro Deposit allowed estimating the iron content contained in the deposit, in addition to estimating the volume and contained mass of iron. The location of the iron deposit is favorable for the logistics of transporting production, as the deposit is located close to Gerdau Açominas S.A. and the Vale S.A. terminal. The logistical access is already installed and, probably, has a low environmental impact. In carrying out this work, the study area was divided into three sectors within the ANM mining process polygon for a better geological characterization of the iron ore bodies of the canga and itabirite. The bodies were divided into the North, South, and West sectors. These sectors were mapped and sampled on a regular grid of 25 m x 25 m. In the geological mapping, structures and iron bodies were found with thicknesses defined by visual inference and measurement through the apparent thickness of the lithologies present in the study area. The Tesouro Deposit shows an average iron content of 60,40% for the ferruginous canga and 51.18% for the friable itabirite, with the enormous advantage of having low manganese and phosphorus contaminants. The total estimate of the measured mineral resource to the total mass for the canga mass was 1,111,853,100 t and 30,847,157 t for the friable itabirite.
