Resumo: Seahorses have some biological peculiarities as special carrying capability and the consequent difficulty of re-colonize fragmented areas. The low reproductive rate and prolonged parental care make the species particularly vulnerable seahorses to overexploitation (Lourie et al., 1999, 2004). After an initial planktonic phase, seahorses now have aggregated distribution, occurring discontinuously in the environment. In this phase, exhibit site fidelity and tend to stay in one area for relatively long periods (ROSA et al., 2005). There are few studies aimed at understanding the population of seahorses in their natural habitats. In this context, this study aimed to: develop maps showing the occurrence patterns and population distribution of seahorses in the study area, examine the loyalty of these individuals to the sampled areas, characterize and describe the H. mobility patterns in reidi estuary of the Vaza-Barris river in the city of Aracaju, Sergipe state. For the study were conducted thirteen field collections from February 2014 to March 2015. All seahorses were found belonging to the species H. reidi with no record of the species H. erectus. The study was conducted in the lower portion of the estuary of the Vaza-Barris river, on a tidal river which is recognized as the Whale Creek. In the collection of individuals were analyzed various data such as length, sex, behavior, it was solitary or in pairs or in groups and color. It has also been noted with its location using a GPS and marks were made using Fluorescent biocompatible elastomer. Among its bony rings codes were made to later be identified on the recapture. Finally, we observed in this study the low displacement of individuals, thus proving the fidelity of them to their habitat.
