Resumo: The present work aims to address aspects of Sergipe football during the World War II (1939-1945). Sport, in this context, assumed a function of entertainment and distraction for the population, especially after the torpedoes by a German submarine to national ships between the coast of Sergipe and Bahia. As well as the departures from both the capital and the interior, they served as a space for freedom of actions and protests against the censorship of the Vargas government. The clubs, championships and players of the period and their role in that context were analyzed, in addition to the daily life of the state, especially in Aracaju, during the 1930s and 1940s, and the initial movements of football in Sergipe. To carry out the research, the newspapers Correio de Aracaju, Folha da Manhã and O Nordeste were used. Finally, it was possible to conclude that this sport acquired great importance in a scenario of world war and the Estado Novo regime.

O esporte, neste contexto, assumia uma função de entretenimento e distração para a população, em especial após os torpedeamentos por parte de um submarino alemão a navios nacionais entre a costa de Sergipe e Bahia. Assim como, as partidas tanto da capital como do interior, serviam como um espaço de liberdade de ações e protestos contra a censura do governo Vargas. Foram analisados os clubes, campeonatos e jogadores do período e seu papel naquele referido contexto, além do cotidiano do estado, em especial de Aracaju, durante os anos 1930 e 1940, e os movimentos iniciais do futebol em Sergipe. Para a realização da pesquisa, foram utilizados os jornais Correio de Aracaju, Folha da Manhã e O Nordeste.
