Perfil epidemiológico de adolescentes asmáticos atendidos em um serviço de urgência pediátrica em Aracaju, Sergipe

Objectives: To perform an epidemiological analysis among adolescents aged 10 to 14 years attending a private emergency service in the city of Aracaju (SE), in the period from 2014 to 2017. Methods: Descriptive and transversal study based on information collected from 2998 medical records of patients with asthma. The variables analyzed were age, gender, place of residence of the patients, year and month of attendance, besides the correlation of the frequency of visits due to asthma crises with temperature and relative humidity of the air. Results: From the total of 2998 patients attended by asthma attacks, 343 met the inclusion criteria of the research (11.44%). Among these 343 adolescents, 207 (60.35%) were male and 136 (39.65%) Female, with an average of 10.87 years and 5 hospitalizations in the period. There was a significant statistical correlation between sex and total visits (p = 0.002). There was a negative linear correlation (p = 0.0207) between the patient's age and the number of visits. Regarding provenance, 248 (72.30%) patients were from Aracaju (SE) and 95 (27.70%) were from Sergipe's countryside. The annual average was 85.75 episodes (SD = 8.10), with most cases occurring between august and october. Conclusion: The gender and age of the patient are important factors related to a greater number of visits due to asthma crises in this establishment, as well as dry and low temperature months. Such crises cannot be neglected because they are still the cause of hospitalization in this age group
