Correlação da função pulmonar com a capacidade funcional em pacientes com doença de Parkinson

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system (CNS) that causes movement disorders and respiratory disorders. This study aimed to correlate pulmonary function with functional capacity of patients with Parkinson's disease. There were 16 individuals with Parkinson's disease, both sexes. Disease status was assessed using the Hoehn and Yahr scale. Functional capacity was assessed by the 6-minute walk test and Timed Up and Go. Pulmonary function was assessed by ventilator and maximal expiratory and inspiratory pressure by the manovacuometer. Data analysis was performed by the Bioestat 5.3 program. Descriptive statistics were performed by means of mean, standard deviation and percentage. Correlations were performed through the Spearman test and comparisons through the Student and Mann-Whitney T-tests. The average age of the participants was 65.8 years, most of them male and with statism 2 by Hoehn and Yahr scale. Significant differences were considered when comparing the distances covered in the 6MWT (p = 0.0001) and the Slow Vital Capacity (p = 0.04) with their predicted values. Moderately correlated between pulmonary and functional functions, and in manovacuometry, most participants included reduced MIP and MEP. Individuals with PD reduced lung function, which showed a moderate correlation with functional decline. To limit the scarcity of studies with this approach, further research is needed with the use of the ventilation instrument in this population.
